Join Us – PAC3 Community PAC³ iTanning Salon Legislation
Senate Bill 460 (SB 460), introduced on March 2, 2009, has provisions related to licensing and associated fees for tanning salons; inspections, violations and injunctions; equipment training, use, and operations; warning signs and statements for users; promotional materials; and, restrictions on use by minors.
According to the American Dermatology Association, ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the single largest environmental factor in the development of skin cancer and is a known human carcinogen. Melanoma is the most common form of cancer for young adults 25-29 years of age, and the second most common form of cancer for adolescents and young adults 15-29 years of age. Indoor tanning with UV radiation lamps has been linked to melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, molecular damage associated with skin cancer, and other acute damage to the eyes and skin.
